Martin Lewis warns thousands will miss out on £650 cost of living payment

Martin Lewis has issued a stark warning that thousands of people on certain benefits will miss out on Cost of Living support worth £650.

The new financial package was announced by the Chancellor Rishi Sunak last week, but many will not receive the cash.

During an interview with Mr Sunak, Martin Lewis said people who receive certain benefits, including PIP, Carers Allowance, and ESA could miss out on the £650 payment. Mr Lewis urged the chancellor to rethink the plan, according to Birmingham Live.

It came after he shared the comments of one woman who had messaged him asking for more support from the Government. He said: "She's right, carers save the government millions by caring - they are asking you for help in a crisis."

Mr Sunak said: "Very simply, our existing system is the best guide we have to those who are in need. That 8million are on means tested benefits. This is where the majority of calls were from for help. This comes on top of the £400 and likely the £150.

"A third of UK households will receive that support. There will always be other people who need support as well. We've put some support in place to help those with disability benefits. The majority of people on carers allowance will get those other things."
