Martin Lewis is urging people who pay their energy bills by direct debit to make a simple check from this month.
Many people who pay their provider in this way accumulate credit, and Mr Lewis said this would be better in their own pockets. The Money Saving Expert founder told Good Morning Britain viewers on Wednesday that energy companies are sitting on an estimated £7 billion in customer credit.
As part of his regular presenting slot on the early morning TV show, dubbed "Wallet Wednesday", Martin used a graph to show how direct debits are higher during the colder months to account for increased usage.
