Martin Lewis has warned customers of Plusnet Mobile to switch providers before its closure in the "coming months".
The financial expert took to Twitter on Tuesday to warn: "Are you a Plusnet mobile SIM card customer? If so it's closing it down and you'll need to move."
Plusnet only offers SIM cards - not mobile phones with contracts - so customers will need to switch providers to keep using their mobiles as normal. Switching providers before the closure will also mean users will be able to keep their mobile phone numbers.
Experts at Martin Lewis' website Money Saving Expert say users' SIM cards will eventually stop working when Plusnet Mobile shuts down. This means customers won't be able to make calls, send texts or use the internet.
The closure comes as the BT Group, which owns EE and Plusnet, makes way for EE to become its main mobile brand, writes MSE. Customers will be offered exclusive deals to switch to sister company EE, reports MSE, although the details have yet to be announced.
Plusnet Mobile users will be able to switch providers without penalty even if they are mid-contract. Customers can find out about any outstanding charges and when they will need to be paid by texting INFO to 85075, calling Plusnet for free on 500 from your Plusnet mobile, or calling Plusnet on 0800 079 1133 from any other phone.
In order to keep their mobile phone number, users will need to switch before the closure. This can be done by getting their number's porting authorisation code (PAC) by texting 65075. This code will need to be given to your new provider within 30 days.
