Martin Lewis says millions can still claim help even if they are not on benefits

Martin Lewis has urged people to check if they are entitled to help despite not claiming benefits.

The Money Saving Expert said millions are losing out on help from the government by not checking if they are eligible for other allowances than Universal Credit. Martin said it is "definitely worth your time" to check if you are eligible but stressed not everyone will fit the criteria.

Martin said there are still 2.6 million people out there on "old school" benefits" such as Income Support, JSA, ESA etc. By the end of 2024, most of these will be transferred to Universal Credit.

He said that, with the second cost of living payment being received from households as of last week, there is still help for those not eligible. Martin revealed that there are other "benefits" aside from Universal Credit including single tenant help which cuts the cost of council tax by 25% for those living alone.

A Disability Facility grant is also available along with Discretionary Housing Payments if you are not able to meet your rent. He urged viewers watching the Martin Lewis Money Show to check what they are missing out on with a simple online benefits checker.
