Martin Lewis left 'feeling sick' as fan loses £12,900

Martin Lewis gave a warning over a scam that "sickened" him.

He appeared on This Morning alongside Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby as he answered callers questions. One Martin Lewis fan got in touch to say he saw an ad online using the Money Saving Expert's name.

It was promoting the sale of crypto currency and with having the consumer champion's face next to it the fan thought that it would be trustworthy and decided to sign up for the scheme. Ultimately, he ended up losing £12,900 to the scammers.

In response, Martin said: "I don't do adverts." He added that he has never even talked about crypto currencies on This Morning, his own show, or elsewhere.

He said: "I deliberately avoid the subject so that the scammers can't use it. The only time I ever talk about it is to say it's a scam. If you see any advert online with me in it is a lie. It is thieves trying to steal your money. Please do not go near it.

"Bitcoin code, Bitcoin trader, all of those with famous names in - when you click through you look like you're going to the BBC or you look like you're going to the Daily Mirror.

"They're not true. They're not real. They're fake websites and I'm devastated, I've been warning as loudly as I can about this for years and every time I hear a story like that it just makes me feel slightly sick if I'm honest with you."

Phil asked: "What can he do now?" Martin sighed as he replied: "It is very difficult. There are regulations that mean the bank may be able to recoup the money off the scammer's back. I would certainly in the first instance go and talk to citizen's advice consumer helpline."
