Martin Lewis fan shares 'easy way' to save £110 on energy bill

A Martin Lewis fan said they saved £110 on their energy bill after making a simple change.

The Money Saving Expert returned to front the Money Show Live on ITV tonight. Tuesday's show marked the 10th anniversary of the popular consumer rights programme.

To celebrate the landmark achievement, Martin revisited some of the people who have utilised the financial advice to make big savings. The show started with a tip from a viewer named Sandy who followed heating advice shared by Martin.

She said: "Watching Martin Lewis. I checked my boiler flow temp. It was at 82 degrees. I've turned it down to 60 I should save £110 a year. Check your combi boiler now."

Martin branded the check an "easy way" to save money if you have a combi boiler. He said: "Go to http://www.moneysavingboilerchallenge.com/, nothing to do with me, and it will show you whether your boiler is set too high and you can bring it down. You can save money that way."

The website explains how people can save money on their heating bill by making the change. It said: "Turning down the flow temperature on your combi boiler to 60°c or below can knock £££ off your heating bill each year and reduce energy waste from your home."

The Money Saving Boiler challenge estimated the average household could save £112 on their heating bill by lowering boiler flow temperature. It adds: "Heating homes with fossil fuels accounts for 15% of the UK’s carbon emissions. So by using energy more efficiently, we can cut carbon emissions and save money on our heating bills at the same time."
