Martin Lewis has admitted he has paid Twitter for a blue tick after slamming the process that allows people to be able to do so.
The Money Saving Expert founder has repeatedly said how dangerous the decision to put the ticks essentially up for sale, as this could be used by scammers who pretend to be genuine brands and organisations.
On Tuesday, Mr Lewis tweeted: "OK, so Twitter is to remove the verified tick from those they’ve actually verified the identity of, and instead a verified tick will simply in future mean 'paid account'.

"This is not a good for scam or fraud prevention. Scammers can pay as they make money from it."
However on Thursday the finance guru has explained why he has actually bought his blue tick from Twitter. He said: "I've just paid for Twitter Blue verification, but pls don't read-across that this is a recommendation, or support for the changes.
"I'm in a peculiar position that scammers commonly impersonate me to steal from the vulnerable, so I feel obligated to do it to reduce that risk".
Fans have rushed to reply to his tweet. One Twitter user said: "It's a scandal."
A second said: "Martin, don't worry about what others think. I don't blame people for having blue ticks etc and I'm sure others don't."
