Martin Compston has admitted that he's always 'delighted' by the constant rumours surrounding Line of Duty's return, but warns fans not to get their hopes up.
The Greenock-born actor appeared on This Morning on Thursday to chat to Holly Willoughby and Craig Doyle about all things Soccer Aid, as well as the popular BBC cop drama.
The 39-year-old is going head-to-head with his Line of Duty co-star Vicky McClure on Sunday's Soccer Aid as they are managing opposite teams for the big match.
Martin noted that he's looking forward to seeing Vicky as 'it's been a while' as he discussed the future of Line of Duty. Fans have been desperate to see the Scots star reprise his role as DCI Steve Arnott after the sixth season aired and the notorious bent copper 'H' was unveiled.
After discussing all things Soccer Aid, Craig asked Martin: "Now before you go, Line of Duty! We're hearing all sorts of rumours there might be a mini series coming up?"
However, much to fans disappointment, Martin shut down the recent rumours. He said: "Unless you hear anything from us, I'd just leave it at that. Look, there's always rumours. And I'm delighted there's always rumours, it means people want us back. That's a lovely feeling.
"But you don't want people to get their hopes up so unless it comes from me, Vicky, Adrian or Jed, then it's just rumours."
He added: "They're all my close friends and I'm sure we'd all love to do one at some point but it's just getting us all together."
This comes after Martin said something similar in a recent interview and said the Line of Duty reunion is more a case of when, not if it will ever happen. He told The Sun: “We’d all love to work together again but we’re all doing different stuff. We’re all running around. It’s just timing, and to get to the same point.”
But he added: “It’s testament to what we created that everybody is still desperate for more. I love that people ask about it. The day people stop, it’ll be a sad day.”
The main issue seems to be Martin, Vicky, Adrian and writer Jed Mercurio's busy schedules and trying to find the time to work together again. Martin is set to reprise his role in the Amazon Prime series The Rig, while Vicky stars in Trigger Point and Adrian works on Ridley.
Martin added: “Jed never stops writing, Vicky’s putting bombs out, Aidan’s a singing detective, I’m off on an oil rig. The truth is, we’ve not signed on for anything at the moment.
“There’s just nothing at the minute. That does not mean it won’t happen. Just at this point, I genuinely don’t know. But we’ve always taken time off.
"Probably if this happened 20 years ago, I’d have been more like, ‘Oh, I need to get away from it’. You need to do something else.
“It’s the thing I’m most known for and I’m incredibly proud of it.”
