Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk says the first sign of his Parkinson's disease was not a tremor. It was a stiff hand on the golf course. The 53-year-old Southern University head coach disclosed his diagnosis in a podcast interview released Oct. 21, saying he has been living with the condition for about a year and a half.
Faulk shared the news on an episode of Caring Neurologist with Dr. Sandeep Thakkar, a show that focuses on the disease. He said he noticed rigidity in his hand after long sessions of playing or practicing golf and at first blamed it on putting nerves. "I just thought it was, you know, normal nerves when putting," he said, The Advocate reported. When the stiffness showed up away from golf, he raised it at one of his twice-yearly physicals, and his doctor told him to get checked.
