Mars will be visible in Irish skies tonight in a rare stargazers' treat.
The extraordinary event can be enjoyed for several hours tonight as the red planet looms into view. Although Mars will look as if it is close to the Moon from tonight’s stargazing, this is an optical illusion.
In reality, there is a distance of over 97 million kilometres between the two entities. Mars, measuring 4,200 miles, is twice as wide as the Moon’s 2,160 mile diameter.
