Dundee have appointed Mark McGhee as their new boss - but he could be watching from the stands for his first SIX games in charge of the club.
The Premiership side sacked James McPake on Wednesday with the Dark Blues just a point off the bottom of the table.
McPake, appointed by Dundee in May 2019, had been under pressure for a prolonged period but appeared to have staved off the axe by winning two games on the spin.
Managing director John Nelms has now moved swiftly to find a successor to McPake ahead of the clash with Celtic this weekend.
Record Sport understands that trusted Dens Park advisor Gordon Strachan has helped with the next boss search and McGhee has now been handed the reins.
A statement announced: "Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce that Mark McGhee has today been appointed manager of the club.
"He arrives at the club with Simon Rusk who will join Dave Mackay is assisting Mark."
It's McGhee's first full-time management gig since leaving Barnet in 2018, but he also took on a caretaker role with National League side Eastbourne Borough in 2019 and worked as assistant boss at Stockport County last season.
However, a ban from his last spell in Scotland could hang over his early Dee impact.
McGhee was given a six-game suspension on March 16 2017 for an incident when he was Motherwell manager.
He was involved in a verbal exchange with an Aberdeen supporter that escalated into a further argument with the referee and fourth official.
He was relieved of his duties at Fir Park before the ban was issued and did not serve it.
