Mark Fotheringham and Kenny Miller given Huddersfield boot after less than five months in charge

Mark Fotheringham and Kenny Miller have been sacked by Huddersfield Town after less than five months in charge.

The Scottish duo were appointed last year as the club looked to gain promotion to the Premier League after missing out in the play-offs last season. Fotheringham, who was previously assistant manager to Felix Magath at Hertha Berlin, took over in September while Miller joined the Championship outfit at the end of November. The West Yorkshire club are currently in third bottom place in the Championship and could face relegation to League One.

Fotheringham and Miller were winless in the last five games and since the turn of the year Huddersfield have slid down the table. A 2-2 draw against fellow strugglers Blackpool on Tuesday night was the last straw for the board. It came despite playing the entire second half with ten men and losing two goals in the last eight minutes of the game.

Fotheringham lasted just 20 games at the John Smith's Stadium and won five games in that time.

A club statement read: "Huddersfield Town can confirm that it has terminated the contract of Head Coach Mark Fotheringham with immediate effect. His assistant, Kenny Miller, has also left the Club.

"Narcís Pèlach will take control of the team for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship game at Wigan Athletic as Interim Head Coach."
