Margot Robbie’s rib cage is in the news — not a sentence you expected to read and not a sentence I expected to write but here we are, at the sharp end of another day on the internet.
It comes after the actress was featured on the cover of Vanity Fair wearing a cutout dress which showed concave stomach and visible ribs. Almost immediately the comments were alight with censure: “She’s gorgeous, but I don’t think this is a responsible body image photo (sucking in stomach, pronounced ribs showing) as a media publication to put forth to the world for millions of impressionable girls (and boys) out there to see as an unrealistic standard of beauty,” wrote one commenter (355 likes). “So over the skin and bones look,” agreed another.
Alexandra Jones explores the topic.
