Margot Robbie reveals she downed tequila shots before shooting Wolf of Wall Street nude scene

Margot Robbie has reflected on her infamous sex scene in Wolf of Wall Street opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and admitted she had to take a “few tequila shots” before filming.

The Australian star was catapulted into the spotlight playing Jordan Belfort’s wife, Naomi, in the Martin Scorsese flick in 2013.

Speaking during a Bafta: A Life In Pictures recording, supported by electronics brand TCL, for which The Standard was in attendance, Robbie reflected on her opening scene, which saw her walk in fully naked bar stockings and heels.

The 32-year-old shared: “I’m not going to lie, I had a couple of shots of tequila before that scene because I was nervous - very, very nervous.”

The Bafta-nominated actor also revealed that she hadn’t anticipated quite how much attention that nude scene would attract and believed she would fly under the radar.

“A lot, it was my first film in America,” she continued. “Honestly, I know it sounds silly now, knowing how big the movie became, at the time I thought, ‘No one is going to notice me in this film.

“‘It kind of doesn’t matter what I do in this film because everyone is going to be focused on Leo [DiCaprio] and everything’.

“And I was just kind of like, ‘I’ll slip under the radar’.”

Robbie also shared what a collaborative experience the film was and revealed that, at 22, she felt comfortable “riffing” and sharing ideas on set with Scorsese, even helping rewrite a pivotal scene that triggers her character Naomi’s divorce from Jordan.

“I just turned 22,” the Babylon star shared. “I mean, we were a couple of months into the shoot at that point, so the tone had been set that it was a bit of a free for all on that film.

“It was kind of like, the crazier you are, the more Marty is going to love it, and the more screen time you’re going to get, so it was a real sink or swim situation.

“By that point, I was ready to throw out any ideas.”
