It’s been a wild few days for the Celtics’ Marcus Smart.
Sunday saw Boston beat the Nets in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series on the strength of a buzzer-beater from Jayson Tatum — courtesy of a pass from Smart. Two days later, the three-time First-Team All-NBA defender got one of the league’s more prestigious honors: His first career Defensive Player of the Year award.
The fun didn’t stop there.
With the Celtics (-3.5 favorites) looking to take a commanding 2-0 lead over Brooklyn on Wednesday night, the man of the hour, Smart, decided to commemorate his status as the league’s official best defender in the best way:
By wearing a luxurious green, black, and gold robe that reads “D. P. O. Y” on the back during his tunnel walk.

Oh, man. I’m sorry, but how do you not wear that every day for the rest of your life? At the very least, that would be my personal new morning robe as I’m having my coffee. Indeed, quite a smart and stylish fit.
If Smart can clamp down playoff-Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, I don’t see a good reason for not wearing that robe during games. Just a thought.
