Marcus Rashford told how to engineer a move to Liverpool from Manchester United

Former Manchester City goalkeeper David James thinks Marcus Rashford would be a 'valuable asset' to Liverpool and has told him how he could engineer a move to the Merseysiders.

The United attacker has struggled to make an impact this season, having started just 10 Premier League games. The MEN Spor t reported recently that the England international is considering his future at Old Trafford having been left out of the starting XI for the derby defeat to Manchester City.

James has suggested that Rashford would thrive at Liverpool, though he did concede that the rivalry between the two clubs would make any direct move from United to Liverpool unlikely. That said, he highlighted one player who famously crossed the divide via a third party, explaining to GGRecon : “Paul Ince, who played for both, went to Liverpool via Inter Milan from Manchester United.

“Marcus Rashford, age-wise, he's young enough now that if he had to move somewhere else before going to Liverpool, in some kind of long-term plan, then it could happen. However, because of the age he is now, now would be the time to get him.”

James labelled Rashford as a 'tremendously underused resource' at United and claimed that his style of play may be better suited to Jurgen Klopp’s set-up. “I just think he's got all the attributes to be a false-nine, through-the-middle player, rather than being stuck out wide,” James added.

“Therefore, again, when you look at the likes of Liverpool's fluidity, he could actually play wide, and in the middle, and essentially do anything he wants to do if he was playing in that Liverpool side. I don't think he's afforded that with Manchester United with their reliance on the likes of [Cristiano] Ronaldo going down the middle.”

He continued: “In a theoretical world, if you took the rivalry out of the equation, I would snap him up straight away. I think he could be a valuable asset to Liverpool.”
