Marcus Rashford has shared a potentially concerning injury update just days ahead of Manchester United ’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.
The in-form striker played 88 minutes of Erik ten Hag’s side’s dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Barcelona in Thursday’s Europa League clash. The England international was replaced by midfielder Scott McTominay with two minutes of the game remaining.
It was just the fourth game in Rashford’s 18 appearances since the World Cup in which he failed to find the net and while not obviously sustaining an injury in the win against the Catalan giants, he did post an update to his Instagram which is likely to concern United fans.
Rashford shared an image on his Instagram Stories of him looking somewhat pained walking down the touchline at Old Trafford alongside the emoji of a bandaged head, indicating that he is carrying an injury.
The 25-year-old is in the form of his life with a career best 24 goals in 37 appearance for United this campaign. He is equally making an impact in front of goal whether he plays centrally in a front three for United or from his preferred position on the left-side of attack.
Rashford has been instrumental for Ten Hag’s side and is the first name on the teamsheet at the moment. United will be desperate that the striker is at full fitness ahead of Sunday’s cup final at Wembley, despite the tight turnaround time from Thursday’s clash.

Less than 72 hours separate two of the biggest matches of the campaign for United, who are seeking to win a first major trophy since their Europa League title in 2017. They are the only club in Europe’s top five leagues who continue to battle on four separate fronts this campaign.
Ten Hag’s side are also in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup while Thursday’s progress past runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona ensured they are into the Round of 16 for the Europa League. United are also well positioned in the Premier League – just five points off leaders Arsenal, who do have a game in hand.
This is proving to be somewhat of a revolutionary debut campaign for Ten Hag in the dugout but winning silverware will now be a priority with Sunday’s final against Newcastle looming large. The fitness of Rashford may be central for his side’s hopes in the showpiece.
