Marcus Fraser was in disbelief at the penalty call that helped Rangers beat the Buddies 4-0 at Ibrox.
St Mirren went behind early in Glasgow but steadied the ship before Antonio Colak went down in the box under pressure from Declan Gallagher.
Referee Nick Walsh was adamant it was a spot-kick, with James Tavernier doubling the hosts lead at a crucial point in their Premiership clash on Saturday.
But gutted Saints defender Fraser was confident his team-mate got the ball first.
Fraser told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “You know when you come to these places you have to ride your luck and defensively be 100 per cent in every aspect.
“For me, I couldn’t believe he gave it to be honest.
“I was behind Dec, I didn’t have the clearest view by any means, but I think Dec touches the ball.
“I just don’t think you get them. Colak went down like a second after and I couldn’t believe he pointed to the spot.
“Those are the things you need to go for you to stay in the game. The manager stressed before the game that if we went 1-0 up or 1-0 down the game plan stays the same. We don’t go away from that.
“He (the referee) obviously thought there was contact. He was telling us to get away or else he’d show a card. As I say, I could not believe he gave it.
“We got to half-time but then when it goes to three there are gaps and a wee bit of tiredness crept in. We’ll look at that and try to improve.”
While the 4-0 scoreline makes for painful reading, Fraser insists his Buddies won’t be too disheartened from the clash in Govan.
The defender admits he doesn’t want to see the chance back that he spurned which would have brought the score back to 2-1.
Fraser said: “I had a good chance at the back post. Main hit the bar. McGregor made a good save from O’Hara.
“For my one, I either head it down or take a touch. I’ll need to see it back. I probably had more time than I’d like.
“The ball felt as though it was in the air for 20 seconds. I was going to take a touch, then I tried to cushion it into the far corner.
“I should have just got my head behind it, used the grease on the surface and hoped for the best. I don’t want to see it back to be honest.
“The lads are disappointed to come here and get beat. I think that shows how far we’ve come.
“We just need to dust ourselves down, take it on the chin and go again. We know we can pick up points in this run ahead and everyone is looking to do that.”
