Marc Skinner puts Manchester United transfer rumours to bed after 4-0 win over Sheffield United

As Manchester United's 2022 drew to a close with a 4-0 win over Sheffield United in the Continental Cup, Marc Skinner has been looking ahead to the January transfer window.

Stunning performances from Adriana Leon, Martha Thomas and Ona Batlle gave United their final win of the year and all three have played huge parts in United’s solid campaign thus far.

But as the January transfer window looms, it gives manager Skinner the opportunity to make additions to the squad.

With reported interest in Belgium and Reading midfielder Justine Vanhaevermaet, Skinner put to bed some transfer rumours after the win over Sheffield United.

Fotbollskanalen previously claimed United had shown an interest in the midfielder, however, Skinner told MEN Sport : “Some of the reports on some of the midfielders we’re looking at are not true. There’s a Reading midfielder that we’re not looking at so I can be very clear on that.

“But the reality is that we are looking and continue to look - we always will do at this club so we will plan ahead.

“We don't want to get caught out, I know you can’t always avoid that but we’re trying to plan ahead now, get the right people, if they’re available it will work, if not then we will carry on.”

For now, the squad are off duty, with Skinner adding: “They’ll be off for a little break. We’ve had a lot of players that have been into European Championships, of course, potentially with a World Cup coming up so it’s important when we can, we give them a moment.

“This will be their moment but they’ll have a programme that will keep us ticking in and then we will come back into a pre-start to the season again and get them ready, but there's no switching off really, just a few days to ease off.”

United kick off 2023 with WSL action against ninth-place Liverpool at Leigh Sports Village.
