Marc Guehi transfer: Steve Parish confirms Newcastle must pay 'superstar money' for Crystal Palace defender

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has warned Newcastle they must pay “superstar money” for Marc Guehi.

Standard Sport understands the Magpies are confident about landing the England defender after tabling an offer worth an initial £55m plus a further £5m in add-ons.

Palace are thought to value the former Chelsea youngster at £70m and do not want to lose Guehi, though Newcastle believe they can force the issue.

The 24-year-old has two years to run on his contract at Selhurst Park and is reportedly open to the idea of a move to St James’ Park.

The Eagles have identified Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah as a potential replacement for Guehi, with the Blues defender having been told he can leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

A host of Premier League clubs have tracked Chalobah, who is believed to be priced at around £25m.

Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix, who worked under Palace boss Oliver Glasner at the German club, has also been considered.

Still, Parish is refusing to give up on the prospect of keeping Guehi, telling Sky Sports: “Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money.

“It’s not near the point where we have to make a decision. We love having him and would love to keep him.

“If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. He’s a generational talent.”
