Marc Anthony breaks silence on Brooklyn Beckham feud and says wedding claims were 'hardly the truth'

Marc Anthony has broken his silence on the row engulfing the Beckham family, saying the way the situation has unfolded publicly “is hardly the truth”.

The 57-year-old singer spoke out three weeks after Brooklyn Beckham, 26, shared a lengthy Instagram statement in which he distanced himself from his parents, Sir David Beckham, 50, and Victoria Beckham, 51.

Central to Brooklyn’s claims was an incident at his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz, where Anthony performed during the reception.

Brooklyn alleged that his mother had “hijacked” his first dance with his bride after Anthony “called me to the stage”, claiming Victoria then “danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone”.

He added: “I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, Anthony, a long-time friend of the Beckhams, described the situation as “extremely unfortunate”, but disputed the narrative that has circulated publicly.

“I have nothing to say about what’s happening with the family. They’re a wonderful, wonderful family,” he said. “I’ve known them since before the kids were born. I’m godfather to Cruz. I’m really close to the family.”

He continued: “But I have nothing to say about what happened there. It’s extremely unfortunate how it’s playing out — but [how it’s playing out] is hardly the truth.”

In his Instagram statement, shared across multiple Stories, Brooklyn claimed his parents had been “trying to ruin” his relationship with Peltz and had been controlling him “for most of my life”.

He alleged that Anthony invited him on stage during the wedding reception before calling Victoria to join them, disrupting what he said was meant to be a private moment for him and his new wife.

Reports have claimed the singer invited “the most beautiful woman in the room tonight” to the stage, referring to Victoria rather than the bride, leaving guests stunned.

According to those accounts, Peltz was left devastated by the three-minute dance to a love song and exited the room in tears, while her family followed.

Brooklyn was said to be visibly upset and went after his wife following what was described as an “awkward” moment.

Before Anthony addressed the claims, the couple’s wedding DJ, Fat Tony, publicly attributed blame to the singer, alleging that Anthony had instructed Brooklyn to “place your hands on your mother’s hips” during the dance.

Anthony has long been part of the Beckhams’ inner circle, alongside friends including Eva Longoria and Elton John.

He and the couple are said to have bonded over their shared love of music, regularly supporting one another at major events.

Sir David famously surprised Anthony during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2023, while the former footballer is also godfather to the singer’s son, Marquitos.
