Manipur violence: Govt issues shoot at sight order

GUWAHATI: Manipur government on Thursday afternoon issued an order authorizing district magistrates to issue shoot at sight orders when all measures to contain the situation are exhausted as the state remained on edge with fresh inputs of arson in Imphal.

Reports said that at least three vehicles were set on fire by miscreants and few houses were burnt in Imphal east and West districts.

Army and Assam Rifles which were called out at midnight conducted flag march and also conducting aerial reconnaissance in areas of Khuga, Tampa, Khomaujanbba areas of Churachandpur, Mantripukhri, Lamphel, Koeirangi areas of Imphal and Sugnu in Kakching districts.

Defence PRO Lt Col M Rawat said that 55 columns of Army and Assam Rifles have been deployed for restoration of law and order so far and an additional 14 columns also kept on stand by for deployment on short notice.
