Manchester weather forecast as yellow thunderstorm warning issued for large parts of the UK

Following a night of heavy rain, some parts of the UK have been issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms.

Some of the major cities covered by the warning from 2pm today until 2am tomorrow include Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham, Worcester, Gloucester, Bath, and Salisbury. It means there will likely be delays to some public transport services as well as potential damage to some buildings and structures either from lightning strikes or strong winds.

The Environment Agency has also implemented three flood alert warnings for Lower Dove Brooks in Staffordshire, River Maun in Nottinghamshire, and River Plym and Tory Brook. Meanwhile, Greater Manchester will see dry weather for most of the day with moderately high temperatures peaking at 24C for a large portion of the afternoon.

However, the evening will bring in a high chance of thunder accompanied by rainfall which will carry on into the early hours of Tuesday morning and will persist for most of the week. In the latest weekend weather forecast, Alex Deakin said: “Low pressure will dominate through the weekend and into next week and churning around this low pressure, we're going to see slow moving weather fronts.”

The Met Office said: " Overnight rain will quickly clear to leave a dry day for many with plenty of sunny spells. The risk of a few showers developing, mainly across the north of the region. Feeling warm and muggy for early September. Maximum temperature 25 °C.

For tonight, it adds: "After a dry start to the evening, a band of rain will soon push northwards. The rain turning heavy and thundery at times. This clearing overnight, leaving most places dry. Minimum temperature 12 °C."
