Manchester United's Under-18s replicated an iconic photograph following their 3-1 FA Youth Cup final win over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Travis Binnion's side got their hands on the trophy following an entertaining clash with Forest, in which Alejandro Garnacho scored two late goals to seal a historic win for the United youngsters. The Argentine scored twice in the closing stages after Joshua Powell had cancelled out skipper Rhys Bennett's 13th minute header.
Garnacho put United 2-1 up with just 12 minutes of normal time remaining, converting a controversial penalty, before he added his second and the home side's third in stoppage time. It capped off a memorable evening in front of a crowd of more than 70,000 people inside Old Trafford.
United's youngsters lifted the trophy in front of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand before heading back to the dressing room to get the real party started. They became the first United Under-18s side since the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard helped them lift the trophy back in 2011.
Although that was 11 years ago, an iconic photograph of Ryan Tunnicliffe, Ravel Morrison, Lingard and Pogba has been regularly shared on social media since, given the careers Lingard and Pogba, in particular, have since gone on to enjoy. And it is why four members of the Class of '22 could not help but replicate the image once they got the trophy back to the dressing room on Wednesday evening.
Recreating that famous image, from right to left, Sam Mather, Dan Gore, Kobbie Mainoo and Maximilian Oyedele all posed with the trophy. They each positioned themselves in the same spot as the likes of Morrison and Lingard, with Mather replicating Tunnicliffe's topless pose on the left of the image.
It was clear that they were paying homage to the Class of 2011, becoming the first United side since them to win the FA Youth Cup. All eyes will now be on them to see if they head in the same direction as those who thrived 11 years ago.
