Thank you for joining me for this second leg. Manchester United continue their historic run in this competition by knocking out Atlético Madrid 5-0. Bayern Munich are up next and it will be a difficult challenge but who knows what will happen in a competition like the Champions League. To recap all the action have a read of the report below, see you soon.

United head coach Marc Skinner told Disney +: “It feels fantastic, we have made history for the club again… We were ruthless at both ends and that is why we go through 5-0. It’s difficult, I can only give credit to the player available. It has been brutal the last block of games, we have had knocks and illness. I give credit to my team to still come out here tonight and win 2-0. Zigiotti wasn’t feeling great, that’s why I took her off at half-time.”

Earlier this evening Wolfsburg beat Juventus 2-0 (4-2 on agg) to seal their spot in the last eight. They will face OL Lyonnes in the quarters.

Man Utd star Jess Park told Disney +: “I think we are going from strength-to-strength. [For my goal] I thought I am going to have a pop, I hoped she was going to pass it. I missed all of the shots in the warm-up so I thought I better not miss in the game. I think getting the freedom of playing [has helped my form].

United’s CEO Omar Berrada is among those applauding from the stands. He’s chosen a good night to watch this team and will be impressed with what he’s seen.

Jess Park has played really well in this second leg. The whole team were incredible but Park injected that little bit of extra pace this evening. A great watch for the neutral and United fans.

Full time: Man Utd 2-0 (5-0 on agg) Atlético Madrid

Manchester United make history as they reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time. Bayern Munich lay in wait but they will celebrate this victory for now. Atlético were impressive at times but United were clinical to get this job done in both legs.

90 + 1 min: There is one minute added on.

90 min: This has been a really impressive performance from United, Bayern in the quarters will be a different kind of beast though.

88 min: The crowd here tonight is 4,225. They’ve been treated to the Jess Park show.

87 min: Le Tissier whips in the resulting free kick but Gallardo confidently comes out to punch clear. It deflects off of Wangerheim though for a goal kick.

RED CARD! Man Utd 2-0 (5-0 on agg) Atlético Madrid (Perez)

86 min: Perez holds onto Wangerheim and she receives a second yellow.

85 min: Janssen hits the deck with an injury, some nervy moments for United supporters. She is okay to continue though, the club do not need anymore injuries right now.

84 min: United have not fallen off of their pace and it’s almost a perfect evening for Anderson as Wangerheim plays her in but Gallardo saves her chance. She has another shot a few moments later but again the Spanish keeper collects.

82 min: Atletico Madrid have spurned several excellent chances to score across these two legs, but that being said, it’s still been surprising to see how far off the English team they have been. They have surrendered goals fairly meekly. They were a huge threat to the English sides not long ago, not least when eliminating Manchester City in consecutive seasons a few years back, but now they have fallen behind the pace.

80 min: Anderson is just 17-years-old. At that age I was still at school and obsessed with reality TV. She is making her debut for United and it’s in the Champions League. Levels.

78 min: United make another change with Park off for Anderson, the youngster is in the team for the first time and now makes an appearance. What a moment.

77 min: Luany has been a great addition to the visitors and it is a bit boggling why she didn’t start or introduced earlier. Her chance is blocked and United look to counter but Lauren puts in a foul and gets a yellow card for it.

76 min: United having some great game management here too, the tie is theirs effectively but they are holding the ball well and forcing Atlético into more errors.

74 min: Oh my word Park is almost in again. The visitors fall asleep and Park makes a great run. The England star takes a shot but it hits the woodwork and no one is there to tap in the rebound.

72 min: Atlético are going to make another change with Luany coming on, she was suspended for the first leg.

71 min: Fernansez wanted a free kick as George looked to challenge her but the referee says play on. Atlético get the ball back but United wrestle it back. It is just not the visitors night.

69 min: It is captain Le Tissier over the set piece ball again and she delivers it short, Miyazawa pops it into the box but Fernandez heads clear.

68 min: Awujo does exceptionally well to keep a play alive as she passes to Malard as she falls to the floor. The French international should have taken the shot earlier but eventually she wins a corner.

66 min: Le Tissier delivers the corner ball but Turner’s shot is wide. Atlético make a double change with Kuhl and Otermin for Fiamma and Medina.

65 min: What a save from Gallardo. Park comes absolutely streaming up the pitch and she lays it off to Wangerheim who pushes it over the bar. Corner to come but before that Lundkvist is off for George.

64 min: The possession from the free kick ends with a great chance as Wangerheim is fed the ball but she then commits a foul so Atlético can clear.

63 min: Possession again going back and forth but that ends with Awujo fouled on the halfway line. United will take a free kick from there but they have to build from deep.

61 min: If you are just joining us the scoreline may give the impression that it has all been United in this game but it really hasn’t. Atlético have produced some great football but they just have been unable to make it count. That isn’t to take away from United’s clinical edge though which has been impressive.

59 min: Atlético make two changes with Boe Risa and Menayo off for Penalvo and Rodriguez.

58 min: Atlético piecing together some lovely football and it is thundered into the area. However, Sarriegi sends the chance way over the bar.

56 min: United make another change with Schuller off for Wangerheim.

55 min: Possession is flying back and forth with the game hitting a bit of a lull but still fairly well paced.

53 min: Atlético have a free kick after a Lundkvist foul which earned her a yellow card. Boe Risa, a former United player, is over the set piece and the delivery is a good one but it’s headed clear by Le Tissier.

52 min: A reminder too that it is Bayern Munich who will take on whoever wins this tie, more than likely United, in the quarter-finals.

50 min: United are straight up the other end with a cross coming to Schuller but Gallardo manages to collect.

49 min: The corner is taken short but it takes a while for them to get it into the box but when it does Miyazawa clears the danger.

48 min: There was a great chance from Bartel with a great cross from Fernandez almost seeing her get one back. It does deflect out by Miyazawa so Atlético have a corner.

47 min: It is great for Awujo to get some time under her belt, the two first half goals allowing Marc Skinner to make an early change.

Back underway: Man Utd 2-0 (5-0 on agg) Atlético Madrid

Can Atlético pull off a spectacular comeback? Or are United about to make history? All to come. United have also made a change with Awujo on for Zigiotti.

That sumptuous Jess Park strike was so good it drew gasps from the crowd here.

Half-time: Man Utd 2-0 (5-0 on agg) Atlético Madrid

Manchester United are in a great position to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time with two goals in the second leg from Zigiotti and Park. The visitors need at least five second half goals to keep this tie alive.

45 + 1 min: There will be one minute added.

44 min: What a signing Park has been for United too, she joined in the summer from Man City and she has just gone from strength-to-strength.

43 min: Considering United only reformed as a team eight years ago, their performances in the Champions League are remarkable. Professional, clinical and deadly.

The corner is taken short and Park is outside of the area but tries her luck. It’s a good job she does because the goal is unbelievable. Atlético out of this tie now bar something miraculous.

GOAL! Man Utd 2-0 (5-0 on agg) Atlético Madrid (Jess Park)

42 min: What a screamer! Miyazawa’s great footwork wins United a corner.Le Tissier delivers the ball and Park absolutely thumps it home. Wow.

Updated

40 min: That was the chance for Atlético, again they let one roll on by. Fiamma makes a good run but she overruns it and so the pass to Sarriegi isn’t great and it’s out for a goal kick.

38 min: This game a great watch for all bar Atlético fans and also how good is Anita Asante on commentary? She is on Disney + and her expertise and way of explaining things is just perfect for TV. Anyway, back tot he pitch and Schuller almost pounces on a good pass but Gallardo comes out and collects.

36 min: United look to attack but Menayo fouls Park and so the hosts have a good position for a free kick. Le Tissier takes it but it’s headed out of play by Turner.

34 min: Turner is hit by a ball and she is winded but she doesn’t need any treatment and she is okay to continue. She has been incredible for the hosts so far this evening.

32 min: The visitors look depleted, the energy has been drained from them at the moment.

30 min: It will be interesting to see how Atlético respond now, they must score before half-time because I cannot see them scoring at least four to keep this tie alive in the second 45.

Atlético kept repelling United until the ball fell to Zigiotti. She takes a one-touch finish and it’s a beautiful goal.

GOAL! Man Utd 1-0 (4-0 on agg_ Atlético Madrid (Zigiotti

Surely that’s the tie.

27 min: The delivery is good from the corner but Schuller heads it clear. Fiamma pops it back inside but Turner is there to clear the danger. United then counter and Malard takes a shot but it is blocked. This game has everything.

26 min: Perez goes down after contact from Schuller, she needs to be careful as she has just been booked. She gets a talking to by referee Stephanie Frappart. Atlético continue on their attack and they win another corner as Turner sees it out of play.

24 min: The possession from the free kick sees Atlético hit the ball out of play for a goal kick. The visitors have started really brightly but they need to make it count and soon. They almost go further behind with United continually knocking on the door with Gallardo saving twice, the latest from a powerful shot from Malard.

22 min: The first yellow card of the game is given to Schuller for a barge off of the ball to Perez. Atlético’s keeper takes the free kick and a few passes later Lundkvist takes a ball to the face but she is okay to continue.

20 min: That was a superb ball in from Janssen but Schuller and Malard don’t communicate and box each other off of the ball.

19 min: The camera angle there made it look like United had scored but Zigiotti’s attempt is wide. The fast-paced nature of this fixture continues with chances flying at both ends.

17 min: Tullis-Joyce is called upon once again as Atlético peel away against but Jensen’s shot is straight at the keeper. They must take their chances when they have one, if United score again this tie could be done.

15 min: It is end-to-end with a chance created by Fernandez and then United counter. Schuller gets a shot on target but Gallardo saves. Both teams fighting for the first goal in this second leg.

13 min: The decision to play Dominique Janssen at left-back, not in her usual position, and leave Gabby George on the bench is a really interesting choice, from Marc Skinner. I wonder if the away side will look to target that wing. They have started brightly here and they arguably should be in front already.

12 min: Sarriegi must be secretly reading my blog as she creates a great chance, well saved by Tullis-Joyce, which wins them a corner. They take it short but it eventually comes in and Lauren gets a head to it but it’s just over the bar. That was a well-worked set piece, just the accuracy missing.

Updated

10 min: It’s been a fast paced opening to this match but if Atlético want a chance of remaining in the competition they need to get on the scoresheet as soon as possible. Since their early chance they have not had a clear cut shot on goal.

8 min: Both teams have now lulled into a rhythm with possession being exchanged back and forth. If you are interested in a weather update, it is bitterly cold in Manchester but there is no sign of rain.

6 min: What is it about Malard against Atlético Madrid? She was amazing last week and she looks energetic early on as she fires a good strike from outside the box but Gallardo is wise to it.

5 min: The early shot for the visitors has motivated the hosts and they have had the majority of possession since. Their most promising move coming with Malard crossing in but Gallardo collected easily.

Updated

3 min: Atlético have the first chance with Jensen making a great run to find Sarriegi but the resulting shot is an easy one for Tullis-Joyce to save.

2 min: If anyone is wondering where Jayde Riviere is, well she is injured after picking up a knock. It is a blow for United for with a 3-0 cushion they should be okay this evening.

Kick-off: Man Utd 0-0 (3-0 on agg) Atlético Madrid

Here we go.

My friends and I got in a strange but fun debate earlier today: how long do you think it would take you to eat a bathtub full of coco pops. I said two days but my friends were having none of it. What would be your response? Email me and let me know, you can also get in touch with anything football related too.

A great piece to read before this game begins:

Here is how Arsenal booked their spot in the quarter-finals, where they will play Chelsea:

You can catch up with our Women’s Football Weekly below:

Manchester United manager Marc Skinner is urging his team to ignore the aggregate score this evening: “The reality is we’re preparing to go and win the game. We have to give absolutely everything. There’s only one game that matters, and it’s that game.

“If you win it, you’re guaranteed to go through. That’s the mindset. There isn’t any 3-0, not the cliche bit it’s 0-0, and we have to start the game properly.”

Updated

What is the form of both teams heading into this match? Well Manchester United are looking for their eighth win on the bounce with their latest victory coming against the London City Lionesses in the Women’s Super League on Sunday. Meanwhile, Atlético have only lost one game since their new manager Jose Herrera took over in January which was the first leg against United. Most recently they drew 0-0 with Madrid CFF in Liga F.

Manchester United will be wearing their third kit this evening after the club’s other strips were deemed too similar to Atlético’s goalkeeper kit. The Spanish club brought an orange keeper shirt.

In the first tie Silvia Lloris went off injured and fans feared the worst which was confirmed this week. The Spanish star has ruptured her ACL and will spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The team news is in. United have made four changes from the starting line-up on the weekend with Hanna Lundvist, Melvine Malard and Dominique Janssen coming in. Anna Sanberg is not involved after sustaining an injury in the first leg.

Man Utd: Tullis-Joyce, Le Tissier, Lundkvist, Park, Malard, Naalsund, Janssen, Zigiotti, Miyazawa, Turner, Schuller.

Bench: Middleton-Patel, Rendell, George, Anderson, Awujo, Wangerheim

Atlético, meanwhile, make two changes with Otermín and Gio drop to the bench from their draw at the weekend.

Atlético: Gallardo, Fernandez, Perez, Lauren, Menayo, Medina, Boe Risa, Bartel, Fiamma, Jensen, Sarriegi.

Bench: Larqué, Bucero, Guijarro, Kühl, Otermín, Chinchilla, Gio, Portales, Luany, Peñalvo, Rodríguez

An exclusive below from our very own Tom Garry:

Preamble

Hello and welcome to the second leg of the Women’s Champions League playoff between Manchester United and Atlético Madrid. The English club have the upper hand in this tie as they won the first leg 3-0 and now host the second to seal their spot in the quarter-finals.

Atlético will have to put in a perfect performance to try and wrestle a last eight spot back from United. Last week they did not take their chances when they had them but if they do this evening they could turn it around.

If United get through though they will be one of three English clubs in the quarters with Arsenal booking their spot last night and Chelsea already through, more on that shortly.

The team news will drop soon so stay tuned for all the updates before kick-off at 8pm GMT.
