Manchester United 'transfer target' makes major Liverpool admission as Champions League claim made

Manchester United 'transfer target' Joao Gomes has revealed he would love to play for Liverpool in a brutal snub to the Old Trafford club.

It was recently reported that United were lining up a deal for the Flamengo youngster, with one report claiming the Old Trafford club were willing to pay £32m for him.

But when speaking on Instagram during a special live earlier this week, the midfielder opened up on why he would love to play for Liverpool. The Brazilian also explained why his 'biggest dream' in football was to play in the Champions League.

“Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play,” he said via ESPN Brasil and Sport Witness. “Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

Speaking back in June, Flamengo head coach Dorival Junior explained why he hoped Gomes would remain at the club amid speculation linking him with a move away.

He said: “I hope he stays. Players of this level, players with this potential, are few in Brazil. I have no doubt that this boy can still grow a lot, he can evolve a lot. How will it happen? I don't know.

“But it would be really nice if we could hold onto this kid because he has a lot of qualities. He is a player that draws attention in any way. He has growth potential, players of that level are scarce at the moment within this country.”
