Manchester United training squad vs Sevilla confirmed as Marcus Rashford absent with injury

Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw did not take part in Manchester United's first-team training on Wednesday afternoon.

Rashford limped off the pitch against Everton on Sunday and subsequent scans confirmed he is set to be unavailable 'for a few games' with a muscle injury, which means he's uncertain to recover in time to play in the FA Cup semi-final later this month.

Erik ten Hag discussed the injury at his pre-Sevilla press conference and said: "A few games, so that's the statement. I can't give more details on it because we don't know. We'll have to see it how it develops. It's a setback and he's disappointed.

"But he's not totally broke because he will return quickly. He's optimistic, he's started his rehab and that helps to get back soon."

Ten Hag also confirmed that Shaw would be unavailable due to injury to play Sevilla. The left-back was substituted after 37 minutes against Brentford last week and he was subsequently missing from the matchday squad versus Everton.

Donny van de Beek and Alejandro Garnacho, who are dealing with long-term lay-offs, were absent from training and Scott McTominay was also not spotted taking part in the open session, although he may have joined in after the media left. Zidane Iqbal also trained with the group at Carrington, but there was no sign of fellow academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo in the open section part.

United outfield training squad ahead of Sevilla:

Defenders: Varane, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Dalot, Martinez, Malacia, Maguire, Williams.

Midfielders: Fred, Fernandes, Eriksen, Iqbal, Casemiro, Sabitzer.

Attackers: Pellistri, Antony, Weghorst, Martial, Elanga, Sancho.

The Europa League quarter-final opponents Sevilla are 13th in La Liga, meaning they are just five points above the relegation zone. Jorge Sampaoli was recently sacked and Jose Luis Mendilibar, who has managed multiple teams in Spain, replaced him.

United have already defeated Barcelona and Real Betis in the competition this term.
