Manchester United send Alejandro Garnacho a message ahead of Lionel Messi meeting

Manchester United are eager for teenage hopeful Alejandro Garnacho to relish every moment of being called up to the senior Argentina squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Garnacho, 17, is one of seven teenage players to have been named in Lionel Scaloni's squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Ecuador this month. With qualification for the World Cup already secured heading into the next batch of fixtures, Argentina are looking to use the opportunity to secure the long-term futures of exciting talents who have dual nationality.

Garnacho is Spanish-born but qualifies to play for the South Americans through his mother and will get the chance to train alongside the likes of Lionel Messi next week. It's another proud moment for United at youth level and head of academy Nick Cox is eager for the talented teenager to relish the incredible opportunity.

“We have to celebrate all of the boys that get international recognition at youth level and at senior level,” Cox told club media. “It’s a wonderful moment in a boy’s life to represent their country or to play international football and it’s a brilliant learning opportunity.

"There’s stuff that comes from international football that the academy can’t offer, the nature of the competition, the types of opposition, the places you might go in the world, so it’s a wonderful complementing experience to the academy programme. We’ve always been aware of Alejandro’s dual nationality and it is lovely for him to have two wonderful football nations interested in his talent.

“I know he’s proud of his heritage. For us, we’re just really proud that there’s a young boy that’s developing with us that has reached a lovely moment in his career which is selection for a senior side.”
