Manchester United have got through the January transfer window keeping Alessia Russo after record bids from Arsenal just hours before the transfer window closes.
Arsenal were last night reporting to have made bids, which were estimated at around £500,000, for Russo who has been at United since 2020 playing for her childhood club.
There have been months of speculation surrounding the striker's contract, but with Manchester United currently top of the WSL table, the club are looking to keep a star on their team who could crown them champions.
However, as the 5pm WSL transfer deadline looms, it has become increasingly clear Russo will not be on the move this window. According to The Telegraph, United have ruled out selling the England star this month and insist she is not for sale at any price.
Reports suggested Arsenal's offer for Russo was in the region of £500,000, which would have been a world-record fee for a player in the women's game. Lioness Keira Walsh is currently the most expensive female footballer in history after Barcelona paid £400,000 to sign her in the summer.
Russo is out of contract in the summer, and although she is free to talk to clubs outside of England, United risk losing her for nothing in just a few months if a new contract cannot be agreed.
Manchester United currently sit top of the WSL table, but both Chelsea and Arsenal are hot on their heels with games in hand.
