Manchester United reach 'breakthrough' in talks for next summer deal after shock transfer request

Manchester United are set to confirm the permanent sale of goalkeeper Radek Vitek.

According to reports, Vitek has long been Boro's leading goalkeeper target following a successful loan move in the Championship with Bristol City last season.

It is understood that a breakthrough has now been reached in talks with Man United and the 22-year-old is due to travel to Teesside to put the finishing touches to the move.

Boro have been extremely busy this summer, adding Max Arfsten, Sebastian Berhalter, Will Lankshear, Kyle Joseph and Myles Peart-Harris to their ranks as they bid to gain promotion to the Premier League.

As for Vitek, he gets his wish of becoming the first-choice goalkeeper - something he was unlikely to get at Man Utd with Senne Lammens, Tom Heaton and summer signing Karl Darlow all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Speaking earlier in the summer, he said: “I feel great and ready to go again. Someday I hope to be a No1.

“At the moment I am still here, but we will see, I hope (I can leave). I hope there will be some interest. You will know when things are more concrete.

“There is interest on the table, but we are hoping to get the best one.

“My mind is the same, I want to play every week, that is the goal for next season. I think hopefully we will find out soon where that is gonna be.

“I think I have grown in the past two and a half years, I’ve been on a few loans. I have grown person-wise, and on the pitch as well. I feel ready before the season for a loan.”

In addition, the Daily Mail claim that United have inserted a buy-back clause into the agreement with Boro for Vitek as well as a number of other favourable clauses.

If Vitek does join Boro, he will become the ninth player to leave Man United permanently this summer after Rasmus Hojlund, Sonny Aljofree, Tyrell Malacia, James Bailey, Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, Malachi Sharpe and Tyler Fredricson.
