David de Gea
Well beaten for all three goals on a day the dam burst in a defence that had kept six clean sheets in their last seven games. 5
Diogo Dalot
Not especially targeted by Villa but underperformed for the first time in a month and passed up a chance to reduce the deficit in the second-half. 5
Victor Lindelof
His retention was not contentious pre-match but was post-match. Lindelof wilted amid Villa's speed and strength. Bullied. 3

Lisandro Martinez
Had to cover for Lindelof time and again, only he was powerless to prevent Leon Bailey from scoring. One of the few to emerge with some credit. 6
Luke Shaw
Conceded the free-kick Lucas Digne scored from, albeit via a loose pass. Got United on the scoresheet with a deflected shot but an off day. 5
Casemiro
One of a handful of consistent performers in the first-half, he was powerless to maintain United's momentum in the second with the attackers so erratic. 5
Christian Eriksen
Another subdued performance and possibly his regular playing time is catching up with him. Never truly grabbed the game. 5
Alejandro Garnacho
United's best forward. Garnacho drew a decent stop from Emiliano Martinez to signal a momentum shift that got United back into the game. 6
Donny van de Beek
Erik ten Hag is perhaps the only manager on the planet who would have started Van de Beek. On his first meaningful United Premier League start in 701 days, he was anonymous. 3
Marcus Rashford
Ineffectual on the right when he should have started on the other side. Moved to the left when Anthony Elanga came on. 4
Cristiano Ronaldo
The game's greatest goalscorer has stopped being a great goalscorer this season. Ronaldo hits the stands more often than the back of the net these days. 3
Subs
Tyrell Malacia
Replaced Shaw and did little. 5
Anthony Elanga
Poleaxed by Martinez. 5
Anthony Martial
First appearance in four weeks. 5
Manager
Got it wrong by retaining Van de Beek and restricting Rashford by relocating him to the right-hand side. Waited too long to make a change. 4
