Manchester United player Paul Pogba opens up on depression battle

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has opened up about his battle with depression in a candid interview while on international duty with France.

Pogba missed a large chunk of this season having with an injury he picked up last October while away with the reigning FIFA World Cup holders, having started the 2021/22 campaign strongly. Since his return, the United midfielder has not enjoyed the same levels of success earlier on but has once again shown in glimpses just how talented he is.

A charismatic character both on and off the field, Pogba has always come across like a person living life to the fullest. But speaking to French media outlet Le Figaro, the 29-year-old has spoken openly about dealing with depression during his career.

"I've had depression in my career, but we don't talk about it," he said. "Sometimes you don't know you are, you just want to isolate yourself, be alone, these are unmistakable signs."

During United's 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16 second leg at Old Trafford in March, Pogba was alerted after the game that his house had been burgled while his two kids were present in the house. Among the items stolen were his World Cup winners medal and some jewellery and

On that incident, Pogba added: "Me, I'm fine, the family too. I had a rather surprising week, with already the Champions League match where I learned that I was not going to play. Behind, we are eliminated , and, on returning home, I discover my home burglarised after the intrusion of three people who stole my safe.

"There were jewels from my mother, my world champion medal… What scared me the most was that my two children were at home with the nanny during this incident. She overheard everything, called my wife and security, then locked herself in with the boys [aged two and one] into a room. For several days, she was shocked. The main thing is that my children are well."

Pogba's United contract expires at the end of the season, and with no deal in place to extend his stay at Old Trafford, he's expected to bid the club farewell in the summer.
