Manchester United player Lisandro Martinez experiencing visa issues

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is yet to join up with the Argentina squad yet due to authorisation issues.

Martinez and Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero are experiencing some issues with their visas ahead of Lionel Scaloni's side's upcoming matches against Honduras and Jamaica.

The two players, who are expected to start at centre-back for Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar next month, have not yet been able to link up with their international teammates.

Argentina's first game of the international break against Honduras will be played in the United States, meaning that both Martinez and Spurs man Romero are required to obtain visas to enter the country. However, the process to obtain these permits has been complicated due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The US embassy in England has recently been closed, with Martinez said to have flown to Argentina as the Argentinian FA attempt to resolve the issue imminently.

Martinez - who arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in the summer transfer window - has featured on seven occasions for his country. The 24-year-old was also part of the squad that won the 2021 Copa America.

Since signing for Erik ten Hag's side, the centre-back has played in all eight matches so far this season. The Argentine was substituted at half-time of the Reds' 4-0 thrashing against Brentford in August, but has formed a solid partnership alongside Raphael Varane in recent weeks.
