Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag responds to fans' Glazer protests

Erik ten Hag praised the Manchester United fans for their support for his team during the 1-0 win against Aston Villa, with more protests against the ownership of the Glazer family taking place around the fixture.

Thousands of fans marched towards Old Trafford from the city centre before the game and then only entered the ground after 18 minutes, in a pointed reference to the 18-year ownership of the Glazers.

The final deadline for bids to buy the club passed on Friday and a takeover could be edging closer, but fans on the protest were demanding a full sale rather than any deal that would see some of the Glazers stay in charge of the club.

The win against Villa featured regular chants against the Glazers, but there was also backing from the stands for Ten Hag and his team as they strengthened their grip on the Champions League spots, with Bruno Fernandes scoring the only goal of the game.

The teams had entered the pitch to chants of 'We want Glazers out' and there were several more chants urging the Americans to sell up, but Ten Hag was happy with the support his side got and vowed to continue giving the fans a team to be proud of.

"We felt the fans were behind us. We have to focus to be successful because that’s what the fans expect," he said.

"They have to rely on us, we will focus on that. When we keep performances like we do all season the fans are behind us, there's lot of energy, a strong bond."
