Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag issues Aaron Wan-Bissaka update

Erik ten Hag is hopeful that Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be able to return to the Manchester United squad for Sunday's Premier League clash with Leeds United.

The defender missed the 2-2 draw with Leeds on Wednesday night through illness, with Diogo Dalot returning at right-back after being sidelined with an injury. While Wan-Bissaka was absent for the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, Ten Hag is hopeful that the 25-year-old could feature at Elland Road.

Prior to the game in midweek, the former Crystal Palace man had started 11 of United’s 12 games across all competitions since the World Cup break. He endured a difficult first half of the season, but was impressive while Dalot was out of action.

Wan-Bissaka has made a total of 13 appearances for Ten Hag's side so far this campaign, and with the Reds without several first-team players due to injury, his return to side would come as a big boost for United.

"I expect this squad is the same [as it was on Wednesday], except I hope Aaron Wan-Bissaka can return," Ten Hag told club media. "Yesterday (Wednesday) he wasn’t there by illness, so I hope he can return for Sunday."

During his pre-match press conference, the Reds manager ruled the injured Anthony Martial, Antony and Scott McTominay out again for the trip to Leeds. Meanwhile, Casemiro remains suspended, and midfield duo Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are long-term absentees.

By the end of the month, the Reds will have played eight times in February. With that in mind, Ten Hag has stressed the importance of recovering properly after matches.

He added: "It's like, this moment for the players, it's all about recovery, recovery sessions, sleep, food and prepare for the next game. This is the rhythm we are in, and players like to do that, play football games, it betters training, so in this moment we are happy to do it."
