Raimond Van der Gouw
Looked shaky across the opening stages. Gained composure as the match progressed but was deceived by Luis Garcia. 5
Gary Neville
United need a new right-back this summer, but Gary Neville offered just as little as Aaron Wan-Bissaka going forward. Looked confident leading United at the back and he shouted orders throughout. Spirited performance, as expected. 6
Jaap Stam
United's defenders could still learn a thing or two from Jaap Stam. The Dutchman looked classy at the back and received perhaps the warmest reception of the afternoon when being substituted. Could we see him as part of Erik ten Hag's staff? 8

Ronny Johnsen
Was caught for Liverpool's first goal and was troubled by Garcia and Gonzalez. Came close to scoring in the second half with a thunderous effort after an adventurous run forward. 5
Patrice Evra
Looked bright down the left channel and dazzled in the first half with some quick feet, which Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford would do well to replicate. The 41-year-old was relentless on the left and had quality in the final third. 8
Karel Poborsky
Karel Poborsky was United's hardest worker in midfield in the first half. His energy brought the Reds forward and they lacked his presence when he was brought off. 6
Antonio Valencia
Although Valencia only retired last year, he seemed short of legs on his return to Old Trafford. He played at centre-back during the first half but moved forward after the interval. Provided a brilliant cross for Webber after that position change. 6
Nicky Butt
Nicky Butt was at Old Trafford for the FA Youth Cup final and he returned to start for United this afternoon. Was uncharacteristically sloppy on the ball and his passing was wayward. 5
Jesper Blomqvist
Jesper Blomqvist wasn't really involved and was workmanlike for United, but it was more than a respectable shift. 6
Louis Saha
Was unfortunate enough to sustain an injury within the opening stages and was soon brought off. 5
Dimitar Berbatov
Dimitar Berbatov was unsurprisingly the most composed player on the pitch. The popular centre-forward was one step ahead of Liverpool when in possession and he converted from the spot with ease. Classy performance. 8
United's substitutes
Kevin Pilkington - Two outstanding saves, did his best. 7
John O'Shea - Almost scored with a cross. 6
Mikael Silvestre - Tenacious. 5
Danny Webber - Energetic but wasteful. 5
