Manchester United 'keen' on signing £57m striker amid Chelsea interest and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are one of three Premier League clubs keen on signing Jonathan David this summer, according to reports.

United boss Erik ten Hag has made signing a top centre-forward his priority this summer, with Tottenham's Harry Kane and Napoli's Victor Osimhen under consideration. The Old Trafford club also have Benfica's Goncalo Ramos, Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund, Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani and Ajax's Mohammed Kudus on their list of potential targets.

But L’Equipe, as relayed by Caught Offside, now reports that United could go toe-to-toe with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur for Canada international David. Lille are said to have their asking price for the 23-year-old at £57 million (€65m) ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

David has scored 23 goals this season; only Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe has more in the French top-flight this season. Lille sit fifth in Ligue 1, ten points adrift of Champions League qualification for next season, making a summer exit for their star striker seem more likely after also not playing in any UEFA competition during the current campaign.

L’Equipe also reports, relayed by Sport Witness, that United are well positioned to sign Monaco central defender Axel Disasi when the France international leaves this summer. The principality club are already resigned to losing the 25-year-old, with Bayern Munich and PSG also credited with an interest.

The publication claims clubs should expect to pay between £30 and £40 million (€35-45m) to reach a deal during the upcoming transfer window. With several clubs interested, including others from the Premier League, any bidding war could see the upper echelon of that range reached.

A potential advantage United may have in any pursuit is that Disasi and Raphael Varane have previously played together for their national team during a group stage game against Tunisia at the last World Cup before the latter retired from international football in early February.
