Manchester United injury update: Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire latest news and return dates

There are still plenty of injury issues to clear up as Manchester United approach the FA Cup final.

Manchester City await at Wembley after Erik ten Hag’s men managed to come through a last-day win at Brighton without any further problems.

Lisandro Martinez starts on the south coast and Raphael Varane appeared off the bench, pointing them towards both being available next weekend.

Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof were all absent however as they continue their race to recovery.

Here is your latest update of Man Utd injury news and return dates...

Luke Shaw

A setback in Shaw’s recovery from a muscle injury has left his chances of facing City hanging by a thread.

United were initially hopeful he would be ready for the end of the season yet he does not appear to be back in training at this point, with his place at Euro 2024 also in doubt.

“Luke is more complicated, in this moment, let's say there’s less chance that he will make [the final],” Ten Hag admitted last week.

“But there is still a very small, reduced chance. He had a setback, now we have to find out how far [from a return] he is.”

Potential return date: Saturday May 25, vs Man City

Harry Maguire

A muscle injury has kept Harry Maguire on the sidelines since the draw with Burnley at the end of last month.

United hope that Maguire will be back for the FA Cup final, although he too is yet to be confirmed as back in training.

“I think Harry Maguire, I think it's a fair chance that he will be available [for the final],” Ten Hag said. “We plan [for] him.”

Victor Lindelof

Lindelof is back in first-team training and had hoped to feature against Brighton after nearly two months on the sidelines.

However, he ultimately missed out on a place in the squad.

The United boss said: “We have seen yesterday Licha Martinez [is back], he had a good session now as well. There were also others on the pitch like Rapha Varane, Victor Lindelof, they returned on the pitch. We have to see how far [off a return] they are on Sunday.

Mason Mount

Mount is looking at a return from a “very unlucky”, but as yet unspecified, injury which he picked up last week. Despite optimism he would feature at Brighton, he was not named in the squad.

Ten Hag told MUTV ahead of the win over Newcastle last week: “It's a minor issue.

“So he's definitely not out for the season. I think a couple of days, then he'll return. Maybe Newcastle is too short but I think he can be available for Brighton.”

Anthony Martial

Martial underwent surgery on a groin issue in January.

With his contract expiring in the summer, many expect he has played his final game for United, although he is in training and could be ready to make a surprise return at Wembley.

Tyrell Malacia

United will not have Malacia back in time for Wembley.

Having picked up a serious knee injury last summer, he has spent the whole year on the sidelines with multiple setbacks making it one to forget.
