Manchester United give team news vs Liverpool FC and Bruno Fernandes update

Raphael Varane, Scott McTominay and Fred are all set to miss Manchester United's Premier League fixture at Liverpool.

The trio missed the win over Norwich on Saturday. Varane and McTominay (foot) have been sidelined for the last two games and Fred has not recovered from a hip flexor problem he sustained at Everton.

Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw are possibly out for the rest of the season and the depleted state of the midfield could force interim manager Ralf Rangnick to start Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.

A defence that shipped two goals to basement club Norwich could also be unchanged due to the absences of Varane and Shaw.

"Rapha didn't train with the team, he was on the pitch with one of our rehab coaches," Rangnick said. "In regard to injuries, we have the same situation as we had in the last two games."

Bruno Fernandes was involved in a car accident on the way to training on Monday morning but was not seriously injured and trained at United's Carrington training complex.

"Yes, he's training with the team," Rangnick added. "Obviously the accident happened on the way to Carrington but as far as I know nobody was injured. He trained with the team, he was okay and will be okay for tomorrow."

Pogba was cheered and booed off during the 3-2 win over Norwich on Saturday, before a sizeable section of the crowd chanted 'f--k off Pogba' repeatedly. Pogba responded by cupping his ear as he approached the tunnel at full-time.

Matic and Pogba are the only specialist central midfielders available to Rangnick for the Liverpool match and Matic has already confirmed he is leaving United at the end of the season. Pogba is also expected to leave.
