Some Manchester United fans believe Marcel Sabitzer has played his last game for the club after a knee injury brought his season to a premature end.
The Bayern Munich midfielder arrived on January transfer deadline day to fill the gap left by Christian Eriksen after he sustained a serious ankle injury.
Erik ten Hag is looking to bring in a new midfielder in the summer although the future of Sabitzer remains unclear. The Manchester Evening News understands that Bayern and United are in talks about how to handle his rehabilitation with no decision made over a permanent switch. There is no option-to-buy clause attached in his loan deal.

The player himself - who missed Saturday’s win over Wolves - admitted earlier this month he is unsure about where his future lies beyond the end of the season. He said: “Of course, there hasn’t been any contact [with Bayern] up until now, because they have a lot going on and so do we. Everyone is focused on their tasks. We’ll discuss and analyse everything calmly and see in which direction it’ll go.”
Sabitzer - who also missed games against Real Betis, Barcelona, Southampton and Nottingham Forest earlier this year - is contracted to Bayern until 2025.
United fans took to Twitter to wish the 29-year-old the best in his recovery. However, large swathes of supporters have made it clear they do not wish to see the playmaker at the club beyond the summer.
@morgancwmufc: Oh well, that's his United career over.
@cull1828: Well we aren’t signing him permanently, thanks for the memories and the home game vs Sevilla, Marcel.
@HarryJones73: Massive shame, been a really solid loan. Wish him luck for the rest of his career.
