Manchester United Europa League group stage opponents confirmed following draw

Manchester United have discovered who they will be facing in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League this season after the draw was conducted in Istanbul.

United, who will be going in search of a second consecutive Premier League win when they travel to Southampton tomorrow lunchtime, were in Pot One, meaning they were one of the highest-ranked teams in the draw. That meant that they could not be pitted up against the likes of Arsenal or fellow favourites Roma.

The Reds have been drawn into Group E as the headline act and have been joined by Spanish outfit Real Sociedad, Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova and Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia.

United, who last entered the Europa League at this stage in the 2019/20 campaign, will get their European adventure underway on Thursday, September 8 and will conclude their group stage schedule less than two months later on Thursday, November 3. The six matchdays will each be completed on 8 September, 15 September, 6 October, 13 October, 27 October and 3 November.

The order of United's fixtures and who they will play when and where is yet to be confirmed. The group stage timeframe is being condensed because of the World Cup in Qatar getting underway in mid-November.

United's involvement in the Europa League means that a large portion of their Premier League matches this season will take place on Sundays. They will travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Sunday, September 11, following their first Europa League outing three days earlier.
