Manchester United charged following mass confrontation during Crystal Palace clash

Manchester United have been charged by the Football Association (FA) for disorderly conduct following a mass confrontation during the clash with Crystal Palace last weekend.

The Reds secured a 2-1 victory over the Eagles - who have also been charged - on Saturday afternoon, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. However, they were reduced to 10 men in the latter stages of the match after Casemiro was sent off.

The Brazilian midfielder was shown a red card for putting his hands around Palace midfielder Will Hughes' throat, and the 30-year-old has been suspended for three matches as a result - the first of which came in the 2-2 draw with Leeds United on Wednesday night.

Towards the end of the clash, both sets of players clashed following a challenge on Reds winger Antony. While it appeared that Jordan Ayew had shoved Fred during the melee, the Palace man remained on the pitch.

Both clubs have since been charged by the FA, with a statement alleging that they failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained them from provocative behaviour.

The FA statement read: "Manchester United FC and Crystal Palace FC have been charged following a mass confrontation between their players in the 67th minute of the Premier League fixture on Saturday 4 February 2013.

"It's alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour, and it's also alleged that Manchester United FC failed to ensure its players refrained from violent behaviour.

"Manchester United FC and Crystal Palace FC have until Monday 13 February 2023 to respond."

Casemiro will miss the next clash with Leeds at the weekend, and will also be absent for the match against Leicester City.
