Manchester bar accepting items to donate to people of Ukraine - how you can help

Bee House bar in Deansgate Locks is accepting donations of items needed to help the people of Ukraine.

Coordinator for the centre, in Bury and Manchester, Alicja Popowicz is asking for items such as foil survival blankets, toys, nappies, sanitary towels and sleeping bags to help those sleeping outdoors and having to fight on the front-line.

The bar has become one of several places across the UK, where people can go along and donate items, to help the Ukrainian people in need.

The bar began collecting items over the weekend and has already received numerous donations.

Joint co-ordinator, Barbara Byczkowska, from Poland, said the response has been "brilliant."

She said: " The phones are going crazy. It has been a brilliant response.

"We have been getting calls from Polish people, English people, people from everywhere, shops and companies, hospitals and schools - it's been like a hot line, like a typical call centre.

"It has been absolutely amazing. I am so, so happy that people have come together and shown a heart of gold.

"I understand Polish people will want to help but the help from English people and other nations has been "Wow" - I am speechless."

Bar manager at Bee House, Christoph Juraszek is from Poland, and said he has been having sleepless nights about his neighbours back home.

He said: "This is a way we can be together. We have had many English people, people from Spain living in England and Chinese people bringing items.

"I have been having sleepless nights.

"Some people say they don't have much money, so they just bring what they can.

"It's so touching, I just cry."
