- Daniel Levy, 48, has admitted to murdering his friend, 41-year-old Indian national Abdul Kaleem Shaik, dramatically changing his plea to guilty as his trial was about to open at the Old Bailey.
- The court heard that Levy stabbed Mr Shaik in the neck at his flat in Vauxhall, south London, around New Year's Eve, before handing himself in at a police station and telling officers "It's happened again."
- Levy's comment referenced a previous conviction in October 2001 for the manslaughter by diminished responsibility and arson of his grandmother, whom he stabbed and set on fire in July 2000.
- Levy, who has schizophrenia, claimed he killed Mr Shaik to relieve his friend's severe depression and secure his passage to heaven, describing his actions as akin to assisted suicide.
- Having been ruled fit to enter his plea after stating he wished to serve his time quietly without a public trial, Levy was remanded in custody by Judge Lynn Tayton KC to be sentenced on 9 September.
