Man who cheated senior citizen of Rs 60 lakh held in Pune

PUNE: The Pune cyber police have arrested the main suspect behind cheating of a 76-year-old man of Rs60lakh on the pretext of dating high profile women through a friendship club and earning money.

On February 11, the cyber police arrested a 28-year-old woman, whose bank account was used to transfer the amount. “During further investigation, suspect Anup Manore’s (35) name came to the fore and we arrested him on February 16. He has been remanded in police custody till February 22,” inspector Sangita Mali of the Pune cyber police said.

The woman was arrested following a complaint from the 76-year-old man. The complainant had noticed an advertisement in a newspaper about a friendship club in May last year. When he contacted the cellphone number, he was told that he can date high profile women and earn money.

“He was then told to pay different amounts for membership fees, security deposits etc. The man transferred Rs60 lakh between May last year and February this year,” Mali said.
