Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard risked infuriating Sir Alex Ferguson the moment he signed for the club after arriving decked out in the colours of Manchester City.
Howard, a United States international, joined the Red Devils in 2003 for a fee reported at the time as around £2.3m after impressing in MLS for the MetroStars and breaking into his country's national team. However, amid all the excitement around his arrival, the stopper made a schoolboy error right from the get-go.
The New Jersey-born keeper arrived in the same summer as Cristiano Ronaldo, and went on to make 77 appearances under Ferguson before moving to Everton. He might not have made a long-term impact at Old Trafford, but he still recovered from that forgettable start.
