Man Utd news: Declan Rice drops transfer hint as Gary Neville hails four stars

Manchester United’s resurgence in form continued on Sunday with a 1-0 victory at home to West Ham at Old Trafford.

In a victory which saw Erik ten Hag’s side move up to fifth in the standings – with a game in hand over the two teams directly above them in the Premier League – Marcus Rashford netted a superb header from Christian Eriksen’s cross as United produced another excellent rear-guard performance.

Ahead of an action-packed schedule with next month’s World Cup looming large, United are now preparing for a trip to Real Sociedad to conclude their Europa League campaign. Mirror Football looks at all the headlines coming out of Old Trafford for Monday, 31 October.

Rice drops Old Trafford transfer hint

West Ham captain Declan Rice has spoken of his admiration for playing at Old Trafford – resurrecting suggestions he could be a future transfer target for Man United.

The holding midfielder has been linked with a switch to the Reds for multiple transfer windows amid suggestions that he would be open to leaving the East London club for a side capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

However, United’s signing of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen this summer may have put the brakes on any move being imminent. Rice said ahead of the game on Sky Sports: "It's inspiring for sure - it's Old Trafford. You think of the heritage, the big games that have been here, the top players that've played here. You want to come here as a player and stamp your mark and stamp your authority - one to get a win, and two to play well yourself."

Neville’s praise for quartet

Gary Neville reserved special praise for Man United’s back four following their win at home to West Ham.

It was a victory which continued United’s impressive recent defensive run – which has seen just one goal (a penalty kick) conceded across the past six matches. That was despite the absences of both Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof for Sunday’s game.

Club captain Harry Maguire was restored to the starting line-up alongside Lisandro Martinez, with the duo flanked by the impressive Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw – leaving Neville impressed, alongside the performance of goalkeeper David De Gea.

Ajax boss ‘full of resentment on transfers’

It has been claimed in Holland that Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder is still ‘full of resentment’ for the summer transfer window signings by his predecessor Erik ten Hag.

Versatile central defender Lisandro Martinez and wide forward Antony both joined United in the summer transfer window from Ajax, who suffered the exits of multiple first-team stars alongside that of boss Ten Hag.

Reports now suggest that Schreuder – whose side crashed out of the Champions League group stage earlier this week – is still unhappy at how Ten Hag’s new club raided his club over the window as they look to rebuild once more.
