DC United boss Wayne Rooney has hailed Lewis O'Brien as a "great bit of business" after the midfielder signed on loan from Nottingham Forest.
The 24-year-old was left out of Steve Cooper's Premier League squad after a proposed deadline day loan move to Blackburn Rovers fell through and thus has not played since the defeat to Manchester United at the City Ground in the EFL Cup semi-finals.
With the transfer window closed O'Brien was left in limbo after Rovers' appeal to the EFL to sanction the deal after the fact was denied. But with Major League Soccer clubs still able to do business in the transfer market he has found an escape route.

O'Brien will now link up with Rooney in the United States capital until mid-July, although the deal includes an option to buy. The former Manchester United and Everton striker was delighted to sign the Colchester native.
“Lewis has been one of the best players in the Championship over the last few seasons,” Wayne Rooney said. “He reads the game well and creates goal scoring opportunities. Bringing him in on loan from Nottingham Forest was a great bit of business for us and he will be a brilliant addition to our midfield.”
DC United have won just one of their opening four games of the season. Rooney, who previously managed Forest's bitter rival Derby County, will be hoping O'Brien can add some quality to a side that struggled in MLS last season.
