Man Utd 'hold talks' with father of transfer target who came through ranks at Man City

Man United are believed to have been in contact with the representatives of Felix Nmecha, with the 22-year-old having impressed for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.

Nmecha has undergone a split from his previous representatives, leading to his family taking over control of his son's affairs and contact is reported to have taken place, according to reports in Germany. Nmecha was once on the books at Manchester City, before making a move to the Bundesliga, with 30 appearances for Die Wölfe this season.

The Hamburg-born midfielder was formerly on the books at Manchester City, with his potential return to Manchester now thought to be being discussed by the player's family and United.

Germany outlet Sport1 report that the midfielder is being viewed as a potential alternative to Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, with the former England youth international having made his Germany debut earlier this year. The reports state that he could be available for around €15 million (£12.9m).

Nmecha has an older brother, Lukas, 24, who also played for Man City before moving to Wolfsburg, leaving behind the England youth setup to declare his allegiance to Germany. Both brothers were born in England to a Nigerian father, although it is their mother's German nationality which has determined their international allegiances.

It is the player's father who is believed to have been in contact with United, with his role as agent to the talented young player. Nmecha played twice for City during his time at the club, with his debut coming in the EFL Cup semi-final in 2019, being brought on as a second-half substitute.

Felix is a talented midfielder, with the capability to play roles throughout the middle of the pitch, although his profile is that of a number eight. He is a tall and elegant player, with his 6"2" frame and ability to retain possession reminiscent of former United star Paul Pogba.

His debut for the senior German national side during the March international break, with the future looking increasingly bright. He could become a cheaper alternative to the signing of Mason Mount, with United on the lookout for a number eight, with a world-class striker also on Erik ten Hag's summer shortlist.

United's capacity for summer spending remains unclear, with the ongoing takeover leaving doubt over the amount of funds available. Speaking last month, Ten hag outlined the situation.

He explained: "The club has to compete for the highest [honours] in the world - the Champions League, Premier League - but in football, you need funds to construct squads because the level of your players decides if you are successful or not. Everyone knows you need funds to construct a squad and high-level players cost a lot of money."

Ten Hag added: "It's clear what I want but it's not up to me. It's about others in this club. The family are the owners, they make the decisions. Where I can make my influence I will do, so I’m focusing on improving the squad, the team development. I have to make sure the team is progressing."
