Man Utd 'enter transfer race' as Liverpool chase Jude Bellingham alternative

Manchester United have reportedly joined the race for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo with Liverpool also eyeing the Ecuadorian.

Caicedo has impressed during his time at the AMEX Stadium since his arrival from Independiente del Valle. The 21-year-old has gone on to make 25 appearances for the Seagulls, with his appearances over the past season having garnered plenty of praise.

Despite having only been handed a clutch of outings for Brighton, he could potentially be on the way out of the club sooner rather than later. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Liverpool already have their eyes on Caicedo as a potential alternative to Borussia Dortmund ’s Jude Bellingham.

The Reds have been linked with the former Birmingham City starlet for some time but a considerably high price tag, as well as severe competition from elsewhere, could see them move onto other targets, including Caicedo. But a move for the Brighton star might be slightly more difficult than first thought.

As per the reports, Premier League rivals Man Utd have joined the race for his signature. Caicedo currently has just two-and-a-half years remaining on his current Brighton contract with the south coast club hopeful that he extends his stay beyond the summer of 2023.

Despite the interest from Old Trafford and Anfield, the 21-year-old has suggested that his ideal destination would be Chelsea - albeit he is remaining focused on his future with the Seagulls.

Speaking in September, the Ecuadorian said: “Right now I’m very focused on Brighton and the World Cup. I want to have a great World Cup and then we’ll see what happens.

“I think they [Chelsea] are one of the best teams in the world and nobody would turn down an offer from Chelsea or any other club like that. It’d be a dream to be in the best teams in the world and succeed there.”

Caicedo is currently starring for Ecuador at the World Cup in Qatar. He has played in each of his nation’s opening two group games.

They are on the verge of booking their place in the next round of the tournament having beaten Qatar 2-0, whilst they also did excellently to hold the Netherlands to a 1-1 draw last week. Caicedo’s side round-off their group stage assignments with a clash against African side Senegal, with a draw being enough to see them progress.

Should they go through, they could potentially be set to face England in the round of 16 but only if Gareth Southgate’s men secure the victory that they need to finish as winners of Group B.
